Your personal brand is important, even if you have a job. Here’s why:
Whether you own a business or have a job, a personal brand will set you apart from everyone else doing the same thing, and make you and your business more memorable. Figure out what makes you unique and then build a personal brand around whatever that is.
In the video, I share several examples of personal brands: The Podcast Answer Man, The Newsletter Guru, The Ezine Queen, America’s #1 New Business Energizer (that’s me) and Lighting With A Smile (my beautiful significant other).
There are two ways to pinpoint your personal brand. The first way is to look inside yourself and identify what sets you apart from everyone else. What do you really care about? What do you stand for? What are you really good at doing? Make a list of all those traits and interests and see if anything pops out.
The second way to pinpoint your personal brand is to ask other people what they think about you. That’s what I did. I sent a survey to my past clients and asked them a series of questions about their experience with me. Do you know what more than half of them said? I’ll give you a hint: My personal brand tagline is based on the common theme.
Most of the people who responded to my survey said they left meetings with me feeling energized and enthusiastic about their businesses. That’s a pretty clear indication of what my personal brand should be, don’t you agree?
I am a high energy person. In fact, I was recently told by an energy expert (yes, there is such a thing) that I’m like the energizer bunny! She had me put my hands on a fancy contraption that read my aura and 80% of it was RED! I don’t know if I believe in all that or not, but the machine seemed to be pretty accurate with me and with the woman who went before me.
Since my interest lies mainly with Wantrepreneurs and early-stage Entrepreneurs, I decided to drop “new business” in front of my “energizer” brand to make it more specific and relevant to my target audience. That part is purely based on my own self-analysis.
Bottom line…I’m high energy and it rubs off on other people. I also love helping people fire their bosses and grow their new businesses to the next level, and that’s why I’m America’s #1 New Business Energizer.
If you’re wondering how I got to be America’s #1 New Business Energizer, as far as I know, I’m the ONLY New Business Energizer so that makes me #1, right?! Come on! Work with me here!
Now it’s your turn. Do some self-analysis and then ask your clients, customers, friends, family, etc. what they think is unique about you. Make a list of the answers you get and then start stringing them together with other words to create your very own personal brand tagline.
Hop to it!!!
Hi, I am JP Stonestreet, the new business energizer. Do you have a personal brand? Have you created your own brand? Even if you have a job, you still need a personal brand. If you have a service-based business, you really need a personal brand. Let me tell you what a personal brand is. My personal brand American’s #1 New Business Energizer – that’s my brand. I help new businesses, I energize them. Somebody that I follow that I learned how to do podcasting from The Podcast Answer Man – that’s his brand; he is The Podcast Answer Man. I follow somebody else who – his brand is The Newsletter Guru, Jim Palmer. You got to check out his website GetJimPalmer.com. Another person, Ali Brown; she is The Ezine Queen. These are all personal brands and they are extremely powerful because people remember personal brands. On the walk that I took with Amelia and Daisy, Amelia is my beautiful significant other; we took a walk this weekend and in addition to talking about owning your value, we also talked about personal brand and I told Amelia that she needs to come up with something that makes her stand out because commercial sales in lighting is a competitive business. There are lots of people doing it and lots of companies and there are very few accounts when you are talking about National Accounts. These are the big guys, the big players, and so I said “You need to come up with a way that makes you stand out from all of the other sales people that are calling them every single day.” So, we talked about it and we’ve figured out that Amelia’s most defining characteristic is her beautiful smile. Her smile literally lights up a room because it’s like so big and white – it literally does light up the room. People love her smile. It’s the first thing everybody notices about Amelia. So, I came up with this as her personal brand and at first she wasn’t a big fan of it. So, I am anxious to see what you think about this. So, put it in the comments below. Amelia’s personal brand that she is going to start telling people is that she provides lighting with a smile. I love it, don’t you? Lighting With A Smile – that is Amelia’s new personal brand. What is your personal brand?
