OnlineStir has something in common with the White House: we both got hacked by the Russians in the past week.
Whether you realize it or not, we’re at war with the Russians and the Chinese. No one talks about it much, but the US and European governments and businesses are hit by millions of cyberattacks every single day from those countries.
Sometimes the attacks are just a nuisance, like they were to us. They turned our server into a spamming tool which wreaked havoc for a few days.
To get an idea of just how serious this is, check out this site, which monitors attacks on WordPress sites: WordFence.com.
This motion-graphic representation of cyberattacks only displays 5% of the total attacks. To display them all would crash your browser. And these are only on WordPress sites that have WordFence installed (which you should install if you don’t have it already).
It’s a shame that business owners and governments have to devote so much of our time, money and resources to fighting this war, but it’s a necessary expense because people (and governments) in other countries are determined to cause as much disruption to our way of life as they possibly can.
Thanks to my team, we were able to seal our breach and we decided to block everyone from Russia and China from accessing our server. We have much better things to do than retaliate, so a “timeout” will have to suffice. I doubt the White House can take the same approach, but maybe they should…
New Website Alert: VaporStache.com
After 31 years of smoking, Vera was able to quit thanks to e-cigs. Vera says vaping is the only stop-smoking solution that worked for her. She tried quitting cold turkey, patches, gum and other devices with no success. Now, she wants to share her experience and help others stop smoking just like she did through her new website that we built at www.VaporStache.com. If you’re thinking about quitting, this might work for you, too!
