Some of you are already good at this and you know who you are (Brad). You know how to broadcast your message, your product, your service to the world. You know how to sell.
This newsletter is the second part in my series on sales and marketing, and it’s for those of you who aren’t as fearless about shouting it from the rooftops.
Even I’m not immune from this fear. I wrote my book, “The Web Startup Roadmap,” nearly 3 years ago, but it sat on my hard drive gathering virtual dust for 2 years before opened it, re-edited it, and published it.
Why did I do that, you ask? Because I was afraid no one would like it. I was afraid my fellow entrepreneurs and techies would poke holes in it. I was afraid people would think I was bragging. I was afraid of all sorts of things, mainly involving what other people would think of it.
In business, you can’t care what other people think, except maybe your customers (and even then you sometimes have to tune them out). Confidence in yourself and your business is required if you want to make any kind of splash in the entrepreneurial pool.
Taking my own advice, I recently contacted several book publicists. My goal is to be one of the experts you see on TV and hear on the radio and read about in magazines talking about entrepreneurial and online business related issues.
A year ago, there’s no way I would have said that. But I’ve come to realize that I have to put myself out there…I HAVE TO SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS…if I want to make a difference in people’s lives by helping them start their own business. I need some publicity!
My way of accomplishing this goal is to hire a book publicist to help me open some doors. You may want to consider hiring a Public Relations (PR) Firm to help you spread the word. You can offer to be a guest blogger. You can teach a class. You can contact a famous person in your industry and ask for help. You can go to networking events and trade shows. You can go crazy on social media. You can tell every single one of your friends and family about your dream and ask them to tell everyone they know!
It’s normal to have doubts and fears. Don’t beat yourself up over them. Thank them for trying to protect you, and then completely ignore them!
You deserve to live your dream! And the only way to do it is to SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!
