My cousin, Eric Stonestreet who plays Cam on Modern Family, has been a real inspiration to me. While owning a business has its fair share of rejection (people don’t always buy what you’re selling), it’s nothing compared to acting.
In this inspiring interview, Eric talks about the rejection he faced on the way to getting his role on Modern Family…a role that won him two Emmy awards. As you watch this interview, count the number of times he was rejected and pay special attention to how he reacted to each.
Just like acting, owning a business is not for those with fragile egos.
We’re constantly faced with rejection and constructive criticism. If you can’t accept it (like Eric has done during his 20 years in the acting business), learn from it and move on…if you give up too soon…you could miss your big break.
Eric and I are lucky. We come from a family that values hard work and perseverance. And our parents were amazing role models for us.
If you learn one thing and nothing else from the Stonestreet family, make it this: Failure IS an option, but quitting is not.
Accept rejection. Learn from it. And move on. But don’t give up.
Tell us what you think.
