Are you holding on to things that are holding you back?
In 1989, I built a solid oak desk…that would haunt me for the next 25 years! Now, I have a new, functional office that’s ghost free.
Don’t let your sentimental nature hold you back. Don’t let it interfere with your productivity or your prosperity.
If something isn’t working for you, let it go, regardless of how long it’s been in your life or how much energy you poured into it long ago.
Hi, I am JP Stonestreet, the new business energizer. Back in 1989, I custom built my very own solid oak desk to fit my very first computer. It fit that computer perfectly. I had the big monitor with the little screen, I had the big computer with the little CPU, and I had the big dot matrix printer. It fit all of that stuff perfectly. That desk worked great for a lot of years until I got my first laptop. Then it wasn’t quite as functional anymore. Then I got my first flat screen and it really wasn’t very functional, but I kept hold of that desk and kept using it because I built it with my own two hands. Even though that desk wasn’t very functional, I kept it because of the sentimental reason. Last weekend, Amelia and I decided to redo my office and we went to IKEA and bought a new desk. We cleaned out my entire office and now I have a very, very functional workspace without a lot of sentimentality. I spend a lot of hours in this office and the last thing I want to do is be in uncomfortable work environment. It makes it really hard to bring myself in here and want to work when I am all cramped and crowded and nothing is set up properly. Now, my new office is awesome, I love it. This is an important lesson. Sometimes you have to let go the old to make way for the new and that’s what I did by letting my desk go, even though I made it with my own bare hands 25 years ago. It’s not serving its purpose anymore, it’s not useful, it’s not functional and it was driving me crazy. So, look at your life, figure out if something can be removed from it or something that should be removed from it that you have been holding onto for sentimental reasons, but is really counterproductive to your goals and your prosperity. If you find something like that, it’s time to remove it. Replace it with something that works better for you. So, thank you Amelia for helping me remove what wasn’t working.
